Our Year 6 Eco Warriors had an amazing trip to Westonbirt Arboretum!
Last summer, our Eco Warriors took part in a workshop with Forestry England. As a result of their hard work during the workshop, they were invited to Westonbirt Arboretum to help with replanting its Silk Wood area on Thursday 1st February.
Students were thrilled to be given a tour of the arboretum and were blown away by the huge collection of trees from all over the world. After the tour, they had a break for some hot drinks and biscuits, before doing some tree planting of their own!
Many of the ash trees in Westonbirt's Silk Wood have become infected and removed. It was the Eco Warriors' job to replant the area with over 20 native British trees such as Birch and Lime. The team at Westonbirt Arboretum hopes the new trees will be more resistant to disease and climate change.
Each tree was given a GPS location so that our Eco Warriors can revisit Westonbirt Arboretum in the future and see how their trees have grown! We’re extremely proud of our Eco Warriors and their dedication to the environment.
